Bono wurde zum "World Newspaper Congress" (offizielle Webseite) als Ehrengastredner für das 10. Internationale Forum der Chefredakteure eingeladen, welches gestern in Dublin stattgefunden hat. Bono ging in seiner Rede auf die AIDS Problematik in Afrika ein sowie auf seinen Bezug zu den Zeitungen. So meinte Bono: "When it comes to the work I do in Africa the newspapers have always been there for me. I am here to thank you for helping me." Weiters meinte Bono, dass er kein Problem mit dem Bild hat welches von ihm in den Medien verbreitet wird. Nur über eine Story schien er nicht sehr zufrieden zu sein, nämlich jene bei der Bonos Hinterteil das Titelblatt zierte. Bono über diese Story: "It was an appalling invasion of my privacy. I objected to the wide-angle lens which I felt gave the wrong impression." Premierminister Bertie Ahern dankte Bono während des Forums in seiner Rede und meinte "Bono has Been An Eloquent and Effective Advocate of the Need for a Fairer Relationship Between Rich and Poor Countries. We in Ireland applaud his successful efforts in raising the conscience of the world on global inequality, injustice and the scourge of Aids."
